Weekend Results & Match Reports – 11/05/2019

A1 vs Dandenong 7-6 Win

A2 vs Dandenong 8-1 Win

Dan Ward-Bourton Reports

The 2s put on an impressive performance against the reigning premiers. Jumping out in front and holding the lead throughout on the way to a commanding 7-1 victory.

Anchored by a dominating complete game pitching performance from Jack Ogilvie who threw 6 innings allowing just a solitary run. The performance was tempered slightly by him racking up his 2nd slab of the young season by making the 1st and 3rd out in a dig, but nevertheless he no doubt featured heavily in the votes.

The 2s deep batting lineup looked impressive. Batting right through the order in 1 inning and having quality at bats and hitting the ball hard all game long. Doubles from Tom Ogilvie, My Favorite Player, Josh Tribe & 2 more hits from the red hot Rick Preston the highlights.

Some ultra agressive base running put pressure on the op defense and caused mistakes and that was great to see. As was THE BIG CAT Matty McKenna cutting down two would be base stealers from behind the dish.

If the magoos can replicate performances like this there won’t be many teams that can hang with us.

B2 vs Frankston 12-3 Win

Brad Heenan Reports

Cheltenham ventured to Frankston in the 4th game of the year previously winning 2 of the last 3,
We started well with all 9 batters having an at bat in the first, taking advantage of wayward pitching. 3 hits, 3 walks was a good start giving us 3 runs.

Pitching for the day was handled by the ever reliable (except Sandy) Patrick Oneil. He threw a complete game giving up 3 runs, a very good effort for the dad too be.

Craig (Jelly) Ballantyne was feeling good with a 3 hit game, an Micheal Hill with a good game with a triple an a single.

As there pitchers struggled all day to throw strikes we took advantage, collecting 12 walks for the day an 10 hits to go with it.

We sit 3-1 an in 3rd spot, we play host to Dingley this Sat.

Cheltenham won 15-3 with it reverting back to 12-3…

C2 vs Mornington 7-7 Draw

Darren Hiddlestone Reports

C2’s hosted Mornington.

Defensively we started Blake on the mound who threw well for 2 innings, giving up 6 runs and unfortunately 7 walks.

The Big Dog Ashen came in as relief and slowed down the scoring with mix of stuff our opposition had never seen before.

Offensively we had 11 hits, with DJ 3, Dylan and Luke with a double and a single each.

Our tying run came late in the day via some heads up base running by Blake following a hit by DJ.

Thanks to Brent for scoring.

U16 vs Bonbeach 19-1 Win

Koji Campitelli Reports

Round 3 held our under 16’s first home game, in which we had a convincing win over Bonbeach. A good hitting performance from the whole team producing 19 runs across the 3 innings, with plenty of hits, as well signs of unselfish, team hitting. Jeremy, Zach and Blake with some solid hits. Strong pitching performances given by starter Kyle Yong and reliever Lachie Stevens to hold the opposition to 1 run, which helped take pressure off and let us have fun in the box.

U18 vs Dandenong 5-9 Loss

Darren Hiddlestone Reports

This week we hosted Dandenong.
We started well plating 4 runs to nil in the first innings but Dandy fought back to over the next 4 innings, eventually winning 9 – 5.

Defensively our pitching duties were handled by Tom and Josh. Tom threw 3 strong innings striking out 5 and giving up 3 hits. Josh came into relieve and threw hard and fast.

Our fielding was a little disappointing with error proving costly on the scoreboard.

Offensively we had 4 hits, with Sean leading the way with 2 doubles and rookie import Balin with 2 singles.

Thanks to DJ for umpiring and Rosie for scoring.
