It is with much sadness that our Club records the passing of Bill Anderson, aged 90 on 14 October 2020.
For two decades through to 1966, Bill played in our A Grade team in the Victorian Baseball Association. Bill was a Life Member (1957) of the old Prahran Club and the Club Coach and Playing Manager of the A Grade team for 7 seasons from 1960 to 1966.
He was brilliant third baseman and strong righthanded hitter and he represented Victoria at the Claxton Shield during the 1950’s. Bill was selected to the All Star Team in the high profile Summer Night Series played at South Melbourne in 1957. Bill was selected at third base in the Club’s Team of the Century in 2014.
Bill was a member of Prahran’s first “Major League” A Grade Premiership team in 1949 at Olympic Park, defeating Collingwood (4-1), and the playing manager and first baseman in the A Grade Grand Final in 1966 when Runners up to Essendon (6- .
A great clubman and an outstanding coach, Bill was also a mentor who fostered and developed many outstanding young players in his many years with our Club. Bill will be deeply missed by the many people he touched.
